For the animatics (this involved scanning the individual images of the storyboards and editing them in film form so as to have a rough idea of the final timing), we often separated backgrounds and characters to help the process. On this page, the BG with notes for the animatic editor.

Do you make animatics? Do you know any freeware that's used for making animatics

I don't make my own animatics. I once played around with Windows Live movie maker, but that wasn't for anything serious. Top of my head, I can't think of any freeware that would do a good job of timing images with a sound track. But maybe if you look around and ask some other people, you'll find something. Best of luck!

(late reply is very very late): I helped to do storyboards on 3 episodes. Not much, compared to all the other artists that were on the show for many many seasons.

just a question: why r those statues looks more like Indian/Aztec rather than Chinese?!! o.O
Reply
:iconrufftoon:
At the time, the statues were not in final design stage. The inspiration for them was a mix of many cultures, including tibetan, middle east, central america...you name it.
If you also look at the buildings and monuments from that episode, you'll see the different mix.
