As some of you may know, in the live action adaptation of The Last Airbender, the firebenders now need a source of fire to do their firebending.
They do not create their own fire.

Do note that some masters are capable of creating their own fire, but I don't know their ratios compared to regular soldiers.

Which may lead to some...well...problems.

Last airbender belongs to Nickelodeon, Paramount, Viacom.

Watching that movie was one of my worst movie related decisions.

would you believe i didn't realize they couldn't make fire for the first half of the movie. and then i just kept going 'why does everyone have lanterns and torches?'...i literally assumed the whole time that these guys were just wierd. and then iroh 'do you know why they call me the dragon~' and im like 'teafirebreath!' and so happy and then the soldiers all start freaking and the 'omghemakesfirebyhimself!' bit was explained and i became so...so very confused. because, well, your comics kinda some it up. the hell do they become a force to be reckoned with? they attacked waterbenders. in the arctic. on a floating ice island. in an ocean. and their powers rely on their lanterns and torches not getting put out. i mean yes, as long as -someone- keeps one lit they're all good. but still?!

I thought it was stupid. Fire can actually really appear from nothing, so why would they need a source? they are the source themselves. XD Would have understood if they said "not possible without source at night" because the firebending relays to the sun - but completely? No way XD I didnt liked the movie ^^;;

I actually liked that bit. Yeah I know, minority, but it always seemed cheap that they didn't need an element present to bend. It always struck me as being convenient for undisarmable badguys. Waterbenders? No water around. Earthbenders? No natural earth and you're good. Airbenders? Not much air to bend in a water filled cell. Firebenders? Um, maybe the water cell thing? Although Zuko firebended while under the ice so yeah...

Anyway, I felt that this fit more into the flavor of the world.

Air is pretty much everywhere, and practically impossible to cut off from an Airbender. Earthbenders, too, are pretty safe unless they're up in the sky or something. Water seems to be much less abundant, but think about how Hama pulled water out of thin air, and how if you lose control of your water, you can pull it back up again.

This is not the case with fire. Putting it out means it's gone forever. It only seems fair that fire should be made as easy to manipulate as the rest of the elements. Besides, fire's main ingredient is oxygen, so it makes sense to be able to summon it anywhere.
