It is different from the original book, so if you have read or are planning to read it...yes. Big differences.
The movie itself doesn't reinvent anything: it is an often told story with known themes, so no big surprises. What is important though is trying to tell it well, and for a movie that was done in barely more than a year (feature animated films usually take 2 to 4 years), I believe it has succeeded.
The more fun to draw are the other kids (the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut, Fishlegs and Snotlout), Gobber and Toothless. Sorry Hiccup and Astrid!

And yes, this movie has indeed been a huge success. I can hardly wait for the franchise to unfold, but the first film will always be memorable.
