SDCC 2009 EDIT+ Last Airbender pics

Mon Jul 13, 2009, 5:12 PM
Hope you all have your passes already because the show is sold out again this year!

Time to do a bit of promo:
Like in the past few years, I'll be helping out at the Flight table (#2329). The new Flight anthology will be available, so come check it out!
Anyone in full Avatar cosplay that comes visit us, I'll have a special little surprise to give out.
(EDIT)

Looking for the Flight table will be easy this year, but may be a bit hard to reach as we're going to be RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHAOS!
Right there, queezed in between the Marvel and DC booth.
It's going to be both noisy and crazy, ouch!

The show is overflowing with supremely talented artists, some of them right here on DA.
I'll update this list with new names and tables as I get them, so keep checking!

:iconaimo:, :iconeisu: and :iconhaniemohd: will be at the Blatant Comics table (#1328).

Bobby Rubio (ex-Avatar story artist, now Pixar story artist...what can I say, he is awesome) :iconbobbyrubio: will be at table #1943 with his new book 4Gun Conclusion.

Sean Galloway :iconcheeks-74: will have a brand new sketchbook out- each one of them IS a must have!
He'll be at #2544, along with Ryan Benjamin :iconryanbnjmn: (awesome gallery, go visit now!)

Complete floorplan of the event, courtesy of :icondavidsdoodles:, who will have his beautiful books for sale at table H-5

He'll be right close to :iconstephensilver:, table H-6.

:icontravisjhanson: will have books and prints over at table E-11

Though there doesn't seem to be any Avatar related panels during the event, there is something Avatar related happening! This message was sent by Bryan Konietzko to the folks at Avatarspirit.net:

"Mike and I are excited to announce we will be doing a signing at this year's San Diego Comic Con, currently scheduled for 4:00 - 6:00 on Saturday afternoon, July 25. We will be filming a documentary on the making of the television series, and we'll be taping our interactions with people while they get their new ATLA SDCC '09 posters signed (which I am drawing right now!). The producers of the documentary will be pulling certain people who make a great impression aside to film "testimonials" about what the series has meant to each of them. Also, we'd love to film people in their best "Avatar" costumes, new or old, earlier in the day on Saturday. We're not sure if there is already a cosplay gathering planned, but it would behoove us greatly if people could gather at a specific time and place on Saturday, dressed to impress! Bring your favorite fan art, puppets, whatever you want to show to the documentary crew. Thanks! See you in San Diego! -Bryan"

Original message on the Avatarspirit.net main page: [link]

There is talk of having the cosplay gathering on Saturday afternoon, possibly around lunch time.
Keep looking at the :iconavatar-crew: page for updates and news about the meet-up.
Note the time of the meet-up MAY CHANGE, so check back to be up to date.

Keep checking back on :iconethereal-glutton:'s journal, as she will certainly have important infos about the event too.

Lastairbenderfans [link], with the help of German fansite herr-der-elemente [link], have posted mugshots of the main cast for The Last Airbender.
Aang does look like he has woken up from a long, uncomfortable 100 year sleep inside an iceberg, heh heh!
EDIT
Now with bigger picture so we can see the costume.
Katara looks like she's wearing a sort of Ceinture Flechee...which makes me believe the Water Tribe are French Canadians! (or Metis)
Ha ha ha!
I want some Quebec swear words in that movie now.

EDIT: This last image had been called NOT LEGIT by producer Frank Marshall.
Quite possibly a fake, using some actual photos but also some fake ones.
So earthbender guy, I am doubting you exist!
Ha ha, got to applaud the person who did this and fooled us for a few days. Bravo!!

It's possible, as some of these pics are reported fake or doctored.

Though I'm digging the costumes, I am a bit dissapointed over the- reversal- of the skin tones. Though, if you think of it, all these changes could easily be explained in terms of making it more 'realistic'. The Fire Nation is in the tropics, an island chain. Why wouldn't the people have a darker skin tone? and the Water Tripes are near the poles, where people have lighter skin, in general. The scar is much more realistic, though they could have made it stand out a little more. I don't think that it's so much that others see it and be repulsed, as that it's a huge spiritual scar on Zuko.

Only things I'm really sad about are the hairstyles. Zuko really ought to have a topknot, and Katara should have the larger loopies. I mean, it's not like it isn't an actual inuit hairstyle, or anything.
